Troubleshooting & Performance Analysis

Greenfield Research Inc. has a unique capability to assist Fluidized Bed Boiler operators to improve the present performance of their boilers and to investigate into the causes of boiler problems. Our personnel have more than 20 years of experience in designing and building of both Bubbling and Circulating Fluidized Bed boilers, as well as 25 years of experience and research into causes of failure of materials in fluidized bed boilers. We have especially studied the erosion process in Circulating Fluidized Bed boilers. Some of our past projects include:

  • Agglomeration in a Bubbling Fluidized Bed boiler while operating well above design velocity
  • Exceptionally low furnace heat absorption leading to very high back-end temprature and corrosion in a Circulating Fluidized Bed boiler
  • Loss in generation in a Circulating Fluidized Bed boiler
  • Frequent erosion of bed nozzles in a Bubbling Fluidized Bed boiler

  • SEM and XRD for analysis of materials
  • Portable gas analyzer with on board computer for performance analysis
  • Nozzle testing facility
  • Bench scale Bubbling Fluidized Bed combustor/gasifier
  • Large cold model of Circulating Fluidized Bed gasifier to study the hydrodynamics of CFB
